How Two Sisters Brought Camp to Their Neighborhood

What started as a summer memory turned into a mission. Inspired by their time at WinShape Camps, sisters Hannah and Ava turned their front yard into a full-blown summer camp for their neighborhood—and they’ve been doing it for years.

Campers Hannah and Ava Bulmer have been a part of the WinShape nation for several years now. After attending WinShape Camps for Girls at Young Harris and at Mt. Berry, the Bulmer girls decided they wanted to bring the camp experience to their neighborhood – and so, they did!  

“We went to WinShape for the first time and we had a blast, so we just wanted to share that experience,” says Ava.

The Big Idea

After attending WinShape Camps for Girls at Young Harris and Mt. Berry, the Bulmer girls had a dream: to host their own version of camp right in their front yard. But they quickly realized that making camp happen takes more than a great idea.

Funding Their Dream

As the girls started planning, their mom, Katie, reminded them of a practical reality.

“As the idea came up, I told them, ‘I’m not going to pay for all this. Cool idea, but good luck!'”

As many moms out there may identify, sometimes their kids’ dreams are a little bigger than their wallets. However, this little bump in the road didn’t slow Hannah and Ava down. With help from friends, they hosted lemonade stands and bake sales to cover supplies, snacks, and all the essentials for camp. Generous neighbors pitched in too, helping turn the dream into reality.

A Front Yard Full of Campers

Almost four years later, the tradition lives on. For a week each summer, up to 30 kids join in the fun outside the Bulmers’ home—playing games, doing crafts, and experiencing the joy of summer camp, right in their neighborhood.

When we heard about their incredible story, we just had to pay them a visit… and bring along a few surprises.
