National Championship Popcorn Recipe 🍿
As you probably know, the College Football National Championship game is TODAY, and we’ve got the perfect snack to bring to any watch party! Inspired by one of our Fast-Food skill recipes, it was a hit at camp, and we’re sure it’s a snack to be enjoyed by both kids and adults alike.
For an added bonus, your kids can easily participate in the making of this creation as well! Plus, if you are in a rush and need to throw something together at the last minute, it will only take you about 10-15 minutes from start to finish. What are we calling this popped snack? Great question. We like to call it Team Spirit Popcorn!
What do we need?
Ingredients:
- 3 oz. box of berry blue or grape purple jello (depending on the team you are rooting for)
- 3 oz. box of lemon yellow jello
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of corn syrup
- 4 tbsp. butter
- 7 cups of plain white popcorn (2 regular-size bags)
- 1/4 cup of chocolate chips (or Wilton’s candy melts)
- blue, silver or purple sprinkles
- gold star sprinkles
What do we do?
Instructions:
1. Begin by popping 2 bags of white non-flavored popcorn in the microwave.
2. Take the popcorn out of the microwave and pour one bag into a large bowl. Set aside the 2nd bag for later.
3. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together one box of jello, sugar, corn syrup, and butter.
4. Place the mixture in the microwave or on the stove and cook until it reaches a boil, stirring occasionally.
5. Next, remove the mixture from the microwave or stove and carefully pour over your popcorn. Quickly mix the popcorn with a spoon until all pieces are evenly coated.
6. Pour your first popcorn mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving spaces in between all the pieces.
7. Repeat steps 3-5 with the other box of jello, using the 2nd bag of popcorn you set aside. Spoon your second popcorn mixture onto the baking sheet into the spaces you left open.
8. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave according to package directions. Drizzle over the popcorn. Sprinkle on your sprinkles and gold stars.
9. Set aside your baking sheet or place in the refrigerator until the mixture is cool and dry.
