Truett Cathy didn’t just invent the chicken sandwich. That contribution to the world is one for which we are all eternally grateful, but that contribution is only a small part of the legacy Mr. Cathy established in his 93 years. Chick-fil-A is a successful business that sells a great deal of chicken, but sales have never been the end goal for Truett Cathy. Mr. Cathy always said that the purpose of Chick-fil-A was more than just selling chicken. In the early 1980s, Chick-fil-A formed a statement of its corporate purpose: “To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us,” and “To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.” Truett Cathy embodied that purpose. He believed in glorifying God, and he believed in doing so by wisely stewarding what was entrusted to him. 30 years ago, Truett Cathy saw a space that wasn’t being used, and he saw a way to use that space to positively impact children and families.
Because of his commitment to sharing the gospel, thousands of campers have been reached with the Good News of Jesus Christ, and thousands of summer staffers know the incredible experience of being used for God’s kingdom.
Thank you, Mr. Cathy, for all you did for us.
