Fall has officially begun! I am already itching to get outside and do all of the traditional autumn activities that seem to line my calendar every year! Whether you’re looking for a mini-adventure with friends or a grand outing with the whole family, there are tons of fun, affordable activities perfect for this new season.
Here are a few of my favorite fall things that you can do with your family and friends this weekend!
1. Go Apple Picking!
There is nothing more delicious than a fresh, just-picked apple (especially when you’re the one to pluck it off the tree!) Apple picking is a must if you are looking to find the perfect filler for your favorite apple pie recipe. With so many varieties, each member of the family is sure to find a flavor to enjoy (my favorite is Honeycrisp.)
2. Cheer On Your Favorite Team!
Football season is finally underway, and we couldn’t be more excited! Grab your face paint and your favorite jersey and cheer on your team! Pack a warm blanket to stay cozy during long evening games! Don’t forget to pack all of the tailgating snack essentials so you aren’t stuck watching on an empty stomach.
3. Get Outside and Hike!
You might want to channel your inner Creek or Sioux camper for this one! Take a step on the wild side and hit a nearby trail to experience the beauty of the changing leaves from a different perspective. Make sure to pack a full water bottle and brush up on your plant identification before hitting the trails.
4. Get Lost In a Corn Maze!
5. Visit the State Fair!
Experience a little #throwback to our 2015 theme, Hope, by taking a trip to the State Fair! With all of the rides, crazy fried foods, and fun carnival games, everyone is sure to have a blast. Be sure to look at the schedule of events before heading out — most performances and competitions happen during the morning and afternoon hours.
In whatever you choose to do, don’t forget to take time to REALLY enjoy those whom you are with. One of our favorite parts of WinShape Camps is “disconnecting to connect,” or turning off our phones to make the most of the time we have with those around us.
Our challenge to you as we begin this new fall season is to make the most of the time you have with those that God has put in your life.
Wherever you are — an orchard, a stadium, or even a ferris wheel — use your time with others as a thank-offering to God, glorifying Him in all of your interactions.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
